Mary Clinton was a 1964 Charter member of the Redding Garden Club. A soft spoken woman, she was always willing to share her vast knowledge of horticulture and floral design with people of all ages.
One of Mary's exceptional skills was that she made it all seem easy. Mary was involved in all the flower shows and even chaired several flower shows herself. She was a Flower Show Judge of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut and an expert in Floral Design. Mary also served as President, First Vice President (twice), and Horticulture Chairman for many years. She and her husband, Ed, presented horticulture programs for the RGC and conducted workshops on all aspects of gardening. Each year at the Spring Market (now our Plant Sale) Mary was the Club's gardening expert. She compiled our first yearbook, suggested using the daffodil as the official Redding Garden Club flower, and later became an honorary member, a distinction awarded to only a few. Mary died on March 25, 1998. In 1999 the name of the scholarship fund was changed to the Mary Clinton Scholarship Fund in her honor.
